Budapest, Hungary
Tuesday, November 27
This morning we boarded a bus to go to our final destination, Budapest. The bus was a smooth drive, but took about three hours from Vienna to Budapest. Entering Budapest was almost magical. On the outskirts of the city are mountains & there was a large oval tunnel with tiles and plaster work all over it. Upon exiting, the Chain Bridge towered ahead.
The buildings in Budapest are at least five or six stories tall and they are different architectural styles, from medieval to Hapsburgs-influenced to communist to ultra-modern. They are all shoved in around these thing streets with hundreds of cars zooming past. There is a McDonald’s on one corner & a café from 1860 on the other.
After lunch we went on a bus tour (which is nice because it was still very rainy). We went around the Jewish district and ended at St. Mattias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion. We did not have enough time to get all of the pictures we wanted before dark (and the wet makes it much colder).
